Pros and Cons of Different Bathroom Flooring Options

May 30, 2024

When it comes to remodeling your bathroom, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is choosing the right flooring. The bathroom is a unique space that requires flooring that can withstand moisture, frequent foot traffic, and regular cleaning. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide which flooring material is best for your bathroom. In this blog post, we’ll explore the pros and cons of some popular bathroom flooring options to help you make an informed decision.

Bath Planet Of Boston

Ceramic and Porcelain Tile

Pros:

  • Durable and resistant to water, stains, and scratches
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Available in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and sizes
  • Affordable compared to some other options

Cons:

  • Cold underfoot, which can be uncomfortable during colder months
  • Grout lines can be difficult to keep clean and may require regular maintenance
  • Tiles can be slippery when wet, so it’s important to choose a textured or matte finish for added slip resistance
  • Installation can be time-consuming and labor-intensive

Natural Stone (Marble, Granite, Limestone)

Pros:

  • Luxurious and elegant appearance
  • Unique patterns and colors that add character to your bathroom
  • Durable and long-lasting when properly sealed and maintained
  • Can increase the value of your home

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to other flooring options
  • Porous and requires regular sealing to prevent stains and water damage
  • Can be slippery when wet, so it’s important to choose a textured finish
  • Heavy and may require additional structural support

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)

Pros:

  • Water-resistant and durable
  • Comfortable underfoot and warmer than tile or stone
  • Available in a wide range of designs that mimic the look of wood, stone, or tile
  • Easy to install and maintain
  • Affordable compared to natural materials

Cons:

  • May not have the same longevity as tile or stone
  • Some products may contain harmful chemicals (VOCs)
  • Not as eco-friendly as some other options
  • Can be damaged by sharp objects or heavy furniture

Engineered Hardwood

Pros:

  • Adds warmth and natural beauty to your bathroom
  • More stable and moisture-resistant than solid hardwood
  • Can be refinished if damaged
  • Increases home value

Cons:

  • More expensive than LVP or LVT
  • Not as water-resistant as tile or vinyl
  • Can be scratched or dented by heavy objects

When choosing your bathroom flooring, consider your budget, lifestyle, and design preferences. If you have young children or elderly family members, slip resistance should be a top priority. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance option, ceramic or porcelain tile may be the best choice. If you want the look of wood without the maintenance, consider LVP or engineered hardwood.

Three great projects!

Ken L.
We had three projects just completed in our home. A shower replacement, a bathtub/shower replacement and an oversized bathtub converted to a large shower. Our installer was Matt Collins who did an outstanding job!! He was very skilled in the whole demolition and reconstruction process. We highly recommend Bath Planet and especially Matt Collins for a beautiful bathroom upgrade!!

Great Craftsmanship.

Donna N.
This was the best sales experience I’ve ever had. So very nice. Informative. So many options. I see value in every inch. You cannot beat the value and beauty of this anywhere.

FANTASTIC WORK!!!

Robert M.
Joel David & Jackson did an Excellent professional job of installing New Acrylic Shower with bench & 3 Grab Bars. They lowered the entrance way by 4 inches and opened the doorway by 6 inches, making it much more “user friendly”. Both were very skilled and did an excellent job of high craftsmanship. Installed a new shower head and faucet to complete the job.
