5 Ways To Maximize Space in a Powder Room

January 18, 2024

The greatest challenge of planning a powder room is making the most of such a small space. After all, it’s essentially a half-bathroom, without a tub or a shower. In today’s post, Bath Planet of Boston takes a look at some strategies that can help you maximize space in a powder room.

  1. Use the room’s vertical space. One of the key strategies of space conservation is making use of the room’s vertical space. This means installing wall-mounted fixtures and storage solutions. In addition to the much smaller footprint, wall-mounted features show more of the floor, which creates the illusion of a bigger bathroom.
  2. Install recessed lighting. Protruding lighting fixtures protrude and take up space. Recessed lighting, with proper placement, can help illuminate a powder room without getting in the way. Strategically placed mirrors can complement recessed lighting by dispersing the light, allowing for fewer lighting fixtures.
  3. Install a pocket door. A pocket door is a sliding door that disappears into the wall when opened, eliminating the need for swing space needed by a standard hinged door. In a powder room, it can give you more flexibility with your floor plan. However, it’s important to note that the bathroom wall will need to be modified to accommodate it. Similarly-styled doors, such as a barn door may also be an option.
  4. Choose small statement pieces. We’ve been discussing how to make the most of a small space, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t sacrifice its aesthetic elements. The key is in choosing a few but important pieces of decor. Even a couple of small potted succulent plants can add visual interest without taking up a significant amount of space.
  5. Keep it uncluttered. With small spaces like powder rooms, the phrase “less is more” certainly applies. Hideaway or closed cabinetry can help create a streamlined look, while large tiles create fewer grout lines that help reduce visual clutter.

Your remodeling team at Bath Planet of Boston can help bring all of these design strategies together and build the powder room that you’ve always wanted. Three great projects!

Ken L.
We had three projects just completed in our home. A shower replacement, a bathtub/shower replacement and an oversized bathtub converted to a large shower. Our installer was Matt Collins who did an outstanding job!! He was very skilled in the whole demolition and reconstruction process. We highly recommend Bath Planet and especially Matt Collins for a beautiful bathroom upgrade!!

Great Craftsmanship.

Donna N.
This was the best sales experience I’ve ever had. So very nice. Informative. So many options. I see value in every inch. You cannot beat the value and beauty of this anywhere.

FANTASTIC WORK!!!

Robert M.
Joel David & Jackson did an Excellent professional job of installing New Acrylic Shower with bench & 3 Grab Bars. They lowered the entrance way by 4 inches and opened the doorway by 6 inches, making it much more “user friendly”. Both were very skilled and did an excellent job of high craftsmanship. Installed a new shower head and faucet to complete the job.
